You are being played.

Chances are, the folks and media outlets you are getting your news and ideas from are not trying to inform or educate but inflame and entertain. They are profiting from getting you to hate other people in this country. They are fundamentally saying: “pay me through watching advertisers or subscribing to my podcast, and I will reveal to you more ways to hate your fellow Americans.”

They are professional dividers.

Ultimately, you lose the forest for the trees if you look at individual people or agencies to understand this phenomenon. But an example is in order. Professional dividers are found on the Left and the Right. But since I am a progressive, and I tend to focus my concerns on what I see as problems with modern conservatism, I will choose examples of professional dividers from the Right.

I saw this on my browser’s homepage when I logged in today:

“You say this movie is the slickest, most visually appealing and therefore, most insidious packaging of feminist cliches and trans grooming you’ve ever seen.”

Oh, come on. An “insidious packaging?” “Trans grooming.” This is ridiculous, not least of which because the movie is not even out…
